 Meagan's Artist Statement

For my black and white pictures, I went around campus to my favorite places with my favorite person. I wanted to be able to take pictures of places that give me good memories from my time at Elmira College.  I wanted to be able to photograph things that will bring a smile to my face when I look at them years from now. For the digital pictures, I took pictures of animals at the San Diego Zoo. These are animals that I feel power and beauty from. I wanted viewers of these pictures to feel the same connection I had with them.

These might seem like completely different photos to someone that is looking at them but they all connect in a special way to my heart. I am a simple person and I am interested in the little things in life. I want people to be reminded of how special life is no matter how big or small the object or event.  For example, the picture of my boyfriend is a welcoming photo with his smirk which makes me stop to think about how people in this generation need to smile more often. The picture of the tree with the ribbon on it is simple in the fact that it might be just a ribbon to some people but simply seeing this object reminds me of my brother's time in the Army and all of the people in the military. The pictures of the animals show their beauty and strength which really reflect their individuality.

These pictures are all so different but they mean so much to me personally. I hope that when looking at these pictures they bring smiles to the viewer's face. I also hope that they are able to bring some insight on how I view the world.
